Before accepting her position as University of Mississippi Health Care’s Chief Nursing Executive Officer in January 2007, Janet Harris worked at Cardinal Health as Director of Clinical Improvement and Director of Professional Services.
Through the span of Harris’ career, she has always played an integral role in the leadership of health services including president of a health resources company, consultant, and Nursing Director of Mississippi Baptist Health Systems. She also has 11 years of prior experience with University of Mississippi Health Care in roles such as Head Nurse to Associate Director of Nursing.
Harris’ most recent honors include being named as one of Mississippi’s 50 Leading Business Women in 2006, Nightingale Award 2006 - Mentor of the Year by the Mississippi Nurses’ Association; and UMC’s School of Nursing’s Guardian Society Honoree of the Year.
Active in the Mississippi and American Nurses Associations, Harris serves on the ANCC Commission for Magnet Certification, and is active in the Congress on Nursing Practice and Economics. She is a representative to Center for American Nurses and has served on the MNA Board for seven years, including two years as MNA president. She holds a Masters of Science in Nursing and Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
