Time to Celebrate Progress

As you probably know, our fiscal (financial) year ended July 30, 2007.  As of August 1, we recognize another new beginning in our journey to be the best of the best, and the employer of choice.  It is time to pause and reflect on what our dedication, hard work, and new focus has done to advance patient care and ideal working conditions.

First, take a moment to consider and celebrate our positive changes:

  • Patient Satisfaction going up…..
    • Overall quality of care and services
    • Likelihood to return
    • Likelihood to return to the ED
    • Cleanliness scores have increased
  • Decreased Voluntary Turnover Rate for staff
  • Tripling the number of graduates hired in May (from December, 06)
  • Decreasing complaints and increasing compliments!
  • Managerial development for Nursing leaders (Leading through Applied Management Principles - LAMP)
  • Active attendance at Nursing Advisory Council with discussions focused on results and quick turnaround
  • Improved communications with the philosophy of transparency
    • Shift Report standardized
    • SBAR adopted for organization-wide for hand off communication
    • Virtual Suggestion Box initiated (with immediate responses)
    • PACU report delays were minimized
  • Admissions nurses for nursing support (as well as the Rapid Admissions Unit)
  • Decrease in Agency nursing hours
  • Two salary increases in two years (we are competitive!)
  • Executive rounding
  • Electronic assessment and notes
  • Medication carts and laptops
  • Nursing web site enhancement

And, add your own…there is so much more!

Second, stop and give yourself a well-earned pat on the back.
We appreciate your continued focus on providing top quality care to our patients.  It really shows.  And, let me say again, without our nursing staff, we could not achieve our mission for University of Mississippi Hospitals.

Third, please talk about our wonderful achievements and plans for our future with friends, family, and colleagues.
We need to build community trust in our abilities, and build respect for our profession as you relate your stories, showing we make a difference.

Last, but not least, keep talking to us.
The more feedback you give, the stronger our team grows in healthy ways—communicating, treating each other with compassion, working together to meet the needs of our patients.
